Brunel House by Key Living

Brunel House by Key Living

Key Living Ltd is a Property Development company, and provider of luxury shared houses for young professionals in Bristol and Bath.

The company purchases run down, empty buildings and refurbishes them into beautiful HMOs and Flats.

The company had recently purchased “Brunel House”: a 5-storey building, previously arranged as 4 flats. They had reconfigured the building into a huge 10-bedroom, 7-bathroom, 2 kitchen/living room “Co-Living” space – the first of its kind in Bristol.

The Brief

Their mission was simple: create the most desirable shared-living space the city had ever seen. With tenants paying up to £800 per month for a bedroom, it had to be perfect. They were looking for an exceptional, full-service flooring supplier; one that could suggest, supply and fit the most stylish and functional flooring. A supplier with a workforce large enough to complete a job of this size on such a tight timescale, whilst working alongside other trades.

Virtuoso Flooring were recommended to Key Living as a perfect fit for the project. After an exploratory measure meeting, we were asked to price and propose creative flooring solutions for the different areas in the property. Chris from Key Living wanted high quality and durable flooring options for all areas within the property including communal entrance and kitchen living, stairs/landings, Bedrooms and Bathrooms. The flooring had to be fit for purpose within each environment, stylish, practical and most importantly within budget.

A Durable and Stylish Solution

Through several consultancy meetings with Christian Withey (Key Living Director), Virtuoso proposed different options and we quickly narrowed down the most appropriate flooring for each room and area of the house.

Lano Sweet Elegance saxony carpet colour Crème was chosen for the bedrooms. This is a durable yet luxurious deep pile polyprop carpet to give the bedrooms a cosy yet contemporary feel. Chequerboard luxury vinyl Tiles (CHK1641) from Harvey Maria were selected for the entrance hall, which are extremely durable and easy to maintain.

The geometric pattern in the entrance gives the house a warm welcome and stylish, modern feel. Continuing the practical stylish theme into the kitchen dining areas, Moduleo Herringbone LVT was an oak inspired choice. We proposed the Moduleo Herringbone range combining two products laid randomly to create more texture warmth and colour variation. Moduleo Blackjack Oak (22220 & 22229) were the final choices in small format (653mm x 2613mm), again being an LVT they are very durable and easy to maintain. On the landings and stairs, we proposed a durable Faux sisal option from Nature carpets – African Rhythm being the final choice.

The Result

From Virtuoso perspective the job went well. We delivered all flooring aspects to a high standard and planned the job well so didn’t encounter any unexpected issues.

We look forward to working with Key Living on their next projects. Virtuoso Flooring are proud to be associated with this project and Key Living Ltd, who have been nominated for two upcoming awards, and with three further projects in the pipeline.

“Virtuoso were a fantastic company to work with on Brunel House, which has since been nominated for two Bristol Property Awards. From the initial consultation, through to the delivery phases; the team were a joy to work with. We are not the easiest company to work with (hectic sites, tight timescales) but the team were an absolute credit – delivering beautiful flooring and carpet, on time and within budget. We have done two projects with them since and the customer experience is just the same. We are excited to work with them on all our projects in the pipeline – they’re the best in the business.
